For a big period of time I ‘m using a great free utility for string replacements, the lifehacker’s Texter. This utility is very simple and works great for string replacements while the user is typing on any program under windows. Using this little tool I can fill easily forms on the web and write automated texts on my emails rapidly.

One of my favourites on-line services is the bit.ly link shortener. This a very useful function when I have to send by a chat or spell on the phone a long link to someone. In addition I can keep stats about my links on facebook for free. Now I offer to everyone a free utility to use this service without browsing to the bit.ly site.

Florian Reimann’s idea was great and quite simple…
He created five utilities which are utilizing the Windows 7 new behaviour to display the progress in the task bar icon (with the window minimized). With these little executables a Windows 7 user can have indication for CPU usage, Memory usage , Battery status, HDD usage and Volume level at a glance.
All user has to do is run the utility and pin it to the task bar. There are also few options such auto run with windows, color selection and update interval but I think that the default ones are great.
If you are a windows 7 user, go to http://superbarmonitor.de/ download Mr Reimann’s tiny utilities and enjoy them. One last thing to mention: all utilities on Superbar Monitor project are freeware.

Wikipedia says: “The 404 or Found message is an HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server but the server could not find what was requested. 404 should not be confused with “server not found” or similar errors, in which a connection to the destination server could not be made at all. Another similar error is “410: Gone”, which indicates that the requested resource has been intentionally removed and will not be available again. A 404 indicates that the requested resource may be available in the future.” If you like to learn more about Error 404 pages goto Wikipedia.
The aim of this post is to show some fun ideas on Error 404 handling pages. I personally love to see “smart” error 404 pages. In some cases these creations are state-of-art. Check this out to see what I mean (http://www.bluedaniel.com/404.shtml). There are lot of sites in the internet are hunting new error pages and presenting to the public, one of the best is http://www.plinko.net/404/area404.asp and lot of blogs have posted collections with impressive error pages. You can see some collections here, here and here but in some cases you have to check the sites by using your browser because the result is more complicated (and more fun) than a static image.
So next time you want to try something fun… ask for an error page! It may be interesting.

Adam Frucci posted a thread on Gizmodo about Apple’s brand new device.
These days most people are impressed from the iPad presentation. However there are few things-to-consider uncovered about this brand new technology gadget on Adam’s post. Maybe he is right…

Recently I changed my computer. It was time to move forward on performance…
My new system consist from the following parts:
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D
CPU: Intel Quad Core i7 870
Graphics Card: ASUS Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Memory: 4 GB OCZ Gold XTC OCZ3G1333LV2G
HDD: Seagate ST31000528AS (1000 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II).
Optical drives: Sony DVD ROM, Sony DVD-RW. (No BlueRay drive)
I’m very satisfied with the performance of my new system. It seems to cover all my needs.
However a new problem came up when I checked the CPU temperature. The lousy boxed cooler was unable to cool my CPU. Using test utilities the CPU temp raised up to 84 degrees Celsius and I was afraid that soon or later I’m going face stability issues.
So searching on the internet I found that only solution to this, is to replace the cooler with a better one.
The best choice for me, and my pocket, was the
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus which a quite good solution in a great price. The only concern was the size! I had to double check my case and the motherboard to be sure that this cooler system can fit without any problem.
This cooler system is equipped with four direct contact copper pipes, a huge aluminium heat-sink and a quite big fan. The package contains also thermal compound and brackets for a second fan (the second fan is optional). The contained installation guide sucks, but fortunately there is a great video on youtube (
http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=hSq_xbxsm7Q) with detailed guidelines on installation.
Now with the same tests with the same load the CPU temperature stays acceptable levels…
…but the noise doesn’t! (Anyway “you cant have it all in this life”).

In my previous Farmville post I was saying that its time to leave the game… this because I was thinking that soon or later I’m going to pay real cash for virtual ones! Guess what? I’m still farming! (And I didn’t pay anything)

And yes I’m still addicted, me and 10 million people out there on the internet. This game is fantastic and I cant quit.
So I have some tips to give to any new player.
- Schedule your seeds! Think where will you be when your crops will full grow in order to be able to harvest.
- Use short life crops when you need XP (Experience). Since you get XP from plowing its a good idea to use 4 hours crops like Stawberries and Blueberries. On higher levels select your seeds by XP by Time, not by Money by Time.
- Use fences to build a cage around your character’s starting area (this is the center of your farm). This will speed up the procedure of plowing seeding and croping because you don’t have to wait for your character to walk around.
- Buy things (buildings, décorations and other stuff) in order to get more XP.
- Help your neighbors, send them gifts frequently. They will help you back.
- Sell unessasery stuff. Keep your farm clean from unused objects especially the big ones.
- Don’t buy seasonal objetcs unless you get experience from this purchace.
- Be loyal to your farm don’t let your crops die.
- Stop your animals. Don’t let them walk. If the animals walk your farm will be a mess. Click on each animal animal and select “STAY”
- Move trees and buildings to the upper side of the screen. This is the easiest way to get free space for planting.
- Re organize your farm each time you expanding it.
Happy Farming!

One of the most beloved Firefox features is extensions. Especially for the experienced users who love to add custom functionalities to their browser and make things easier when they are using internet and web applications.
Now (to be more specific a while ago) extensions are available for Google Chrome.
Google Chrome is quite simple browser with a bunch friendly build in features such is auto download grabber, omni bar, incognito browsing and many others. With extensions you can make it even more friendly by adding more functions and custom tools. Extensions are easy on installation and configuration and can save user time and lot of clicks. Consider the following situation: you have to check your Gmail for new messages lot of times on a day (this is a very common situation I think), now with the “Google Mail Checker Plus” you can be notified for the new messages read them and even archive them or delete then from the extension interface with just one click.
Opening the link chrome://extensions/ in your chrome browser you can manage your extensions and get more by using the available link in the bottom of the page.

Forget Firefox! You can now add more functions to your Chrome browser and make it the only browser you are using.

Back in 2006, a bright programmer (http://twitter.com/theSoftwareJedi) decided to start a project called “An App A Day”.
The project target was to build a simple application and released within a day (sometimes the application was released after few minutes!). The project was kept alive for 30 days, utilities released on the project blog and are still available for download until today along with their source code.

Head now to project pages and check the utilities, I’m sure that you will found some really fun staff there.
I personally loved the “screen broadcaster” a the “moo prank“.
